Como Lake  – Between the stars
Como lake or lake Lario is located in the regiono f Lombardy region, in the north of Italy, 40 km from Milan. It‘s the third largest lake in Italy, which depth is 410 m., or shape looks like the letter „Y“. In this place a lot of famous persons have rest house and spend their holidays, such as Ava Gardner with Frank Sinatra, Aristotle Onassis with Maria Callas, Woody Allen with Mia Farrow, Versace family, George Clooney, Madonna, Sting, Richard Branson or George Lucas. Don‘t forget that the Como lake is the star too, as there were made many films: „Ocean’s Twelve“, „Month By the Lake“ and others. It‘s an amazing view place, where you can feel like you are looking at the postcard, when you see the clear lake water, ships and white mountains tops.
Do not think that this place is available only for famous and rich people! It doesn’t cost too much to visit this amazing place.

From Milan central station (Milano Centrale) to the lake east side you can go by train (in this place you can go by car or by train), it costs 5 EUR (it depends which village you are travelling to). Train infrastructure is very modern, trains are going from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m., there are timetables everythere. If you go to Abbadia Lariana, Mandello del Lario, Lierna, Varrena, Lierna, you must change the train at the Lecco train station. Pay attention, there are high-speed trains which don‘t stop it all stations. You can buy train tickets at a train station, ticket machines or newsstands. You have to tick the ticket in yellow tickets machine before you go to the train. Don‘t forget the train delays are very offen.
Como lake village:

Lecco
Lecco is a relatively big city at the Como lake coast , it‘s area 45,14 s.q.. You can visit Santuario Nostra Signora Della Vittoria church, or take a boat to Mandello del Lario, Bellagio per others (it cost, 3-8 Eur.). City doesn‘t have just a nice lake but and lovely city centre and mountains, where you can go hiking, or skiing.
If you want to walk to the top of mountains, one of suggestion is to go to the Piani d’Erna, at Lecco train station cross the street and you will see the bus station, take a bus No 5 (ticket price is 2 EUR), direction – Funivia. You can take the cabel to the top of Piani d’Erna (ticket price is 9 EUR), there you will see an amazing view at the top of the mountain. You can walk in the mountain valley longer or sorter route, you will find stands with all information about the objects.

Varenna
Varenna, is an amazing small city (12,2 s.q.) with a short stepped streets. You must visit Villa Monastero, S. Giovanni Battista, Castello di Vezio, Comune de Varrena. We recommend you to take a bout, it works like a „hop on hop off“, the ship floats at the early morning, till 10:30 p.m. (all day ticket is 15 EUR.). Ship stops in Varrena, Bellagio, Menaggio, Cadenabbio cities, or you can take one way ticket to Bellaglio (ticket price is 4 EUR.).

Bellagio
Bellagio is a „lake gem“, a magnificent view village, which is 26 square. There are many shops where you can by souvenirs and little cafes where you can try italian coffee. The best way to go to this village is by boat. Don‘t miss walking in the Giardini di Villa Melzi D’Eril garden. In Bellagio you must visit: basil of San Giacomo, church of Santa Maria Annunciata di Berno, church of San. Martino, church of San Giorgio which was built in 1075-1125 y. inside you will see the fresco of God’s Mother’s.

Mandello del Lario
Mandello del Lario, it has been house of Italian motorcycle Moto Guzzi since 1921, now it‘s named to Piaggio & Co.SpA. It has prepared Guzzi day party since 2001. This village isn‘t big, but you can visit the church of Parrocchia Di S. Lorenzo and go for a walk to the Mandello del Lario park.

Lierna
Lierna, it‘s a 11,3 square village, the main place of it is castle of Lierna (it. Castello di Lierna) which had made by several buildings group, the main part of the castle was made in X c.

And also:

  • The supermarket prices are very different, the cheepest market was in Lecco (from Lecco train station go by bus No.5, direction – Funivia, and on the left side you will see it);
  • In Italy, you must try Italian ice cream, it costs 2-2,5 EUR.;
  • Don‘t forget if you go to the cafe, the tips are Always included in the price;
  • An other good think in Italy – coffee, there are many coffee houses where you can try wonderful caffee. Italians drink coffee standing up, they think it‘s a better way to assimilate coffee. One cup of coffee costs 1 EUR.
